Quotes for regrouting in Preston
Your quote is based on your job. We look at:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The number of rooms or windows
- When we can work, for business premises
- Whether the work is at height
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.
Asking for a quote
When you contact us, these details help:
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
Call for a quick quote, or email us if that is easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will explain what’s involved before giving you a price.
Regrouting for homes and businesses in Preston
We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We are often asked to deal with greasy, stained grout behind the hob and grout that makes sound tiles look old, on shower walls, wet rooms and bathroom wall tiles.
Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Why deal with it now?
Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They will not fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

How the visit works
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, and the area is left clean. Outside jobs in Preston need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Kitchen splashbacks
We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.
Corners and edges
Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.
What regrouting looks like in Preston
Preston is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Preston has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.
If you live in an older home near Prestonkirk Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
Preston is about 5 miles west of Dunbar, in East Lothian. Jobs in Preston get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Preston is one of 48 places in East Lothian we cover. There’s also a page for Edinburgh, about 22 miles away.

When it isn’t the sealant
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- A floor or wall that keeps moving
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Preston: your questions answered
Do you work in hotels near Preston?
Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.
Will you come out to Preston?
Yes. Preston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Will there be a smell?
It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
Will regrouting fix loose tiles?
Tiles that have come away need sorting first. We will point them out before any grout comes out.
Should corners be grouted or sealed?
Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Can I do it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Do you need regrouting in Preston?
A poor original job is a common cause. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard can wash out within a few years.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
- Shower grout that has worn away
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
If you let a flat or house near East Linton station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- What insurance they hold
- How hidden problems are handled
- The length of the guarantee
