Regrouting in Milton, Portsmouth
We cover Milton for raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
How we handle regrouting in Milton
We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. If you have grout washed out of a shower and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, we can help.
Homes around Milton range from older cottages to more recent houses. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

How it works
Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. A visit to Milton is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
Before we arrive
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Clear the area around the work
- Tell us if parking is tricky

Advice
What happens if it’s left?
With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Around Milton, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than renewing the sealant.
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

How the job changes by surface
Wet rooms
Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We renew both.
Corners and edges
The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.
How to look after the new joints
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window so the grout dries between uses.
Grout that’s washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
Can I do it myself?
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Questions from Milton
Do you cover smaller places like Milton?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Do you take on hotel work around Milton?
Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
How long should I wait before showering?
We give you a time before we leave. It depends on the grout and the sealant used so please stick to it.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. More than one area can go on one quote.
Is it messy?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.
Milton homes and their sealant
Milton is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Milton. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.
If you look after a building such as Meon Junior School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Fratton station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

What we’re called out for in Milton
Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly can wash out within a few years.
Common reasons people contact us are:
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
If you live in an older home near Church of St James, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
What to look for in a quote
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
