Regrouting near Copnor

Copnor homes and their sealant

Copnor is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you let a flat or house near Fratton station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. If you look after a building such as Westover Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Copnor is about 1 mile east of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth. For regrouting in and around Copnor, please phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for a quick quote. We cover Portsmouth from our Crawley base. Our area takes in 19 places across Portsmouth.

Regrouting in Copnor, done properly

Grout fills the gaps between tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. We work on wet rooms, tiled floors and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about grout washed out of a shower and cracked or crumbling grout lines.

In and around Copnor, older properties sit alongside newer ones. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

Questions from Copnor

I let a flat near Fratton station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Copnor?

Yes, Copnor is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

How long does the job take?

That depends on how much there is to do, but as a guide it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We will give you a better idea when we quote.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient.

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done

Have any tile that moves checked right away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and open a path for water.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Leave it or put it right?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone is not the answer. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. In an older home around Copnor, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

How we quote for regrouting

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The size of the job
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

Need a quote? Please call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear price before we start.

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout there would crack.

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so sound grout really matters. We check the tiles first.

Common problems we fix in Copnor

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

Common reasons people contact us are:

  • Floor grout that will not come clean
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

If you live in an older home near Church of St Alban, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What your quote should include

  • Who turns up on the day
  • What product goes in the joint
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What insurance they hold

How the visit works

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In a smaller place like Copnor, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Getting ready for the visit

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
