Regrouting in Portsmouth
Problem with your tiled areas in Portsmouth? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
Can I do it myself?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
How we handle regrouting in Portsmouth
Regrouting is usually paired with resealing. Grout belongs between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. If you are dealing with shower grout that has worn away and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, we can put it right, on kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and tiled floors alike.
Portsmouth has offices, shops and other businesses as well as homes, and their washrooms and staff kitchens need the same attention as any home. Homes and businesses get the same careful preparation before anything new goes in.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Your questions about regrouting in Portsmouth
Do you work for landlords with property near Fratton station?

Do you cover Portsmouth for regrouting?
Yes, Portsmouth is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
Yes. Many clients do. Darker grout can hide marks and lighter grout gives a fresher look.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.
Where are you based?
We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Are you insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No, it will not last. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes. Just list everything you need and you’ll get one quote.
Surface by surface
Corners and edges
Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.
Bathroom wall tiles
Walls outside the shower get less water but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.
Aftercare tips
Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.
Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
Regrouting around Portsmouth
Portsmouth is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Portsmouth. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Manor Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Homes close to St Wilfrid include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Why it’s worth doing now in Portsmouth
Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Busy buildings in Portsmouth, from hotels to offices, can’t afford rooms out of use for leaks or mould, so it pays to replace failing joints before they get that far.
What it costs depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Common problems we fix in Portsmouth
Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, until the joints are rough and low.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
For landlords with property near Fratton station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

What we do, step by step
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room and we leave things clean and tidy. In central Portsmouth, parking can be tight, so tell us about driveways, permits or nearby car parks. For flats, mention stairs, lifts and shared entrances as well.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
How to prepare
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Mention any tricky access
