Fratton: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Fratton?
Yes, Fratton is covered. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do you work in hotels near Fratton?
Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
Regrouting won’t fix loose tiles. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow so you know where you stand.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Tell us what needs doing and where. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.
How long will you be here?
A typical job takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, including the preparation. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Is resealing included with regrouting?
In most cases, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.
Regrouting in Fratton, done properly
Grout is the filler between your tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. Typical jobs include floor grout that won’t come clean and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, across tiled floors, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks.
In and around Fratton, older properties sit alongside newer ones. In older homes, walls and floors can move a little more, so the right flexible sealant matters.
A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

DIY versus a professional finish
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
What else we do in Fratton
How it works
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. It usually takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Parking around Fratton is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

What regrouting looks like in Fratton
Fratton is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Fratton. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.
Managing a site like Penhale Infant School & Nursery? Then we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. For landlords with property near Fratton station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What affects the quote in Fratton
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Access and height
- The number and length of the joints
- How many areas need sealing
The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That is why we ask about the job first.
What we need to know
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- A few photos by email, if you can
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- The rough size of the job
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add pictures by email if you can.
Why act early in Fratton
If tiles are loose, regrouting alone is not the answer. We’ll tell you before any work starts, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. In a smaller place like Fratton, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Have loose tiles looked at early
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
Surface by surface
Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.
Shower walls
The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We replace it and renew the silicone at the edges.
When something else is needed
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
