Regrouting in Little Portugal
We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. Common call-outs are for cracked or crumbling grout lines and gaps where the shower grout has gone, on bathroom floors, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks.
Much of London’s older housing is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many of them now split into flats, and bathrooms were often squeezed into small rooms. A compact bathroom that steams up every day is hard on silicone and grout, and homes in Little Portugal are no different.

The process
We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we are treating, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Parking in much of London is by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you in Little Portugal. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a bay close to the door.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
How to prepare
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Clear the area around the work

Leave it or put it right?
Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They don’t fill cracks or stop water, and stains can show through again. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. In older London homes, water behind a failed joint soaks into brick and timber without much sign, and once it shows in Little Portugal, the repair is bigger than a sealant job.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.

How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.
Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it, so it’s worth acting early.
Little Portugal: your questions answered
Is parking a problem for a job in Little Portugal?
Parking in Little Portugal, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly.
Could a tired shower seal in my Little Portugal flat affect the neighbours below?
Yes. In a flat, water from a failed bath or shower seal has only one way to go, and that’s down. A proper reseal before the leak starts is the easy fix.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes, regularly. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.
Will you leave a mess?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
Do you grout the corners?
Corners get silicone, not grout. They move slightly, and grout there cracks.
Can you regrout just the shower?
Yes, we often do. The shower normally fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.
What information do you need?
Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. After that, simply phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.
How much does regrouting cost in Little Portugal?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a short description of the job.

Regrouting in Little Portugal: local notes
In a London flat, water from a failed bath or shower seal can reach the neighbours below, which is why it’s worth fixing early. London’s water is hard, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
Homes close to St Stephen's Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Schools such as Platanos College are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Common problems we fix in Little Portugal
A poor original job is a common cause. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard tends to wash out early.
People usually contact us after spotting something like this:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
As a London address, Little Portugal can be tricky for parking: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book.

Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom floors
Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We check the tiles before regrouting.
Kitchen splashbacks
Kitchen grout collects grease and food splashes. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.
What sealant work cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
