About our regrouting in Haugh

Regrouting is usually paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. We work on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about old grout in a dated colour and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Haugh: your questions answered

Will you come out to Haugh?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is Haugh in your area for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Haugh is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Yes, in most cases. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and wouldn’t keep water out.

How long does the job take?

That depends on the amount of work, but as a guide it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We will tell you when we quote.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.

What should I tell you?

Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, often. Several properties can go on one quote, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses, and we’re fully insured.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Haugh

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Letting a property close to Auchinleck station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

How it works

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Advice

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

What we are called out for in Haugh

Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that’s used every day.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Floor grout that will not come clean
  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean

If you live in an older home near Mauchline Old Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant

How to choose a mastic man

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers

We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Surface by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on size. You can change the colour at the same time.

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout there would crack.

Why it’s worth doing now in Haugh

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
