Regrouting near Guildtown

Guildtown: your questions answered

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Guildtown?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is Guildtown in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Guildtown is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.

What do you put in the joint?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.

How much does regrouting cost in Guildtown?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we will talk you through it.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes, plenty of people choose to. A darker grout hides marks better and lighter grout gives a fresher look.

Regrouting in Guildtown

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. We work on shower walls, tiled floors and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are gaps where the shower grout has gone and cracked or crumbling grout lines.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

What sealant work cannot fix

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom floors

Why it’s worth doing now in Guildtown

Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, which turns a regrout into a retile. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. In an older home around Guildtown, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Common problems we fix in Guildtown

Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that is used every day.

Look out for these signs:

  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean

Around Guildtown, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Choosing a sealant specialist

For landlords and businesses

From a single let to a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

How the visit works

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outside jobs in Guildtown need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice

How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s usually the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

What regrouting looks like in Guildtown

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Homes close to Cambusmichael Church include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen splashbacks

Kitchen grout collects grease and food splashes. Stained grout is best replaced.

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so they get silicone, not grout.
