About our regrouting in Gladsmuir

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you are dealing with floor grout that won’t come clean and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease, we can help, on tiled floors, wet rooms and bathroom floors alike.

For a place like Gladsmuir, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Every job comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in East Lothian.

What we’re called out for in Gladsmuir

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that’s hard to shift. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Splashback grout that has darkened

If you live in an older home near Gladsmuir Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What your quote should include

  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • The length of the guarantee

Why it’s worth doing now in Gladsmuir

Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but mould that has got into grout normally comes back. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Why us?

Questions from Gladsmuir

Is Gladsmuir within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you cover Gladsmuir for regrouting?

Yes, Gladsmuir is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Regrouting won’t fix loose tiles. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow so you know where you stand.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we will explain our choice.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Most of the time, yes. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so we renew both and include it in your quote.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

You get our 12-month guarantee on every job. We’re also fully insured.

How it works

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Gladsmuir may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Before we arrive

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Advice

Honest limits

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before we start. It won’t solve:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Where we work in Gladsmuir

  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

Grout on a floor is walked on as well as wetted. It gets worn and dirty.

Bathroom wall tiles

Walls outside the shower get less water but still stain and crack. Regrouting brings them back in line.

How to look after the new joints

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose

Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. By then, new grout alone is not enough, so it’s worth acting early.

Gladsmuir homes and their sealant

Gladsmuir is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

If you let a flat or house near Longniddry station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.
