Drumoak Regrouting

- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Old grout in a dated colour
- Splashback grout that has darkened
How the visit works
When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work starts. The work usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Around Drumoak, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
Before we arrive
- Mention any tricky access
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Move anything stored near the joints

How we handle regrouting in Drumoak
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. We work on bathroom wall tiles, tiled floors and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles and cracked grout along the bath or tray.
In and around a place like Drumoak, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Signs you need regrouting in Drumoak
Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Grout that is cracking and breaking up
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
Around Drumoak, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- How long to leave it before use
- Is VAT in the price?
- Who turns up on the day
DIY versus a professional finish
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Regrouting around Drumoak
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
If you live in an older home near Drumoak Kirk, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Why act early in Drumoak
With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. In a place like Drumoak, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
What it costs depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts.

Drumoak: your questions answered
Do you cover Drumoak for regrouting?
Yes, Drumoak is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.
What guarantee comes with regrouting in Drumoak?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can you regrout just the shower?
We can. We’ll look at the rest of the room too and tell you if anything else needs attention.
How do I get a quote for regrouting in Drumoak?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.
Will regrouting fix loose tiles?
Regrouting will not fix loose tiles. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we’re fully insured.
Can tenants book the work?
Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
For landlords and businesses
In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we will quote.
When it is not the sealant
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- A leaking wet room membrane
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.
Surfaces we seal
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen splashbacks
Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
Have any tile that moves checked straight away. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.
Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.
