Regrouting near Crossroads

Regrouting in Crossroads, done properly

A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk. If you have good tiles let down by tired grout and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, we can put it right, on tiled floors, shower walls and bathroom wall tiles alike.

A bathroom in a place like Crossroads gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Check the corner silicone every few months

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.

What happens on the day

On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. The work usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outdoor work around Crossroads depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Tell us if parking is tricky

Bathrooms and kitchens in Crossroads

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For jobs in and around Crossroads, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. In and around Crossroads, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Why deal with it now?

Patching a few joints can look like a quick win, but patched grout rarely matches the rest and the old grout carries on failing. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. Around Crossroads, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

The cost depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Why us?

  • Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas
  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
  • 4.9 on Google from 180+ five-star reviews
  • Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild

What affects the cost of regrouting

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How much there is to do
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How easy the joints are to reach

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

If you’re in Crossroads and need regrouting, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.

What sealant work cannot fix

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks

Surface by surface

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Stained grout is best replaced.

Bathroom wall tiles

Walls outside the shower get less water but still stain and crack. Regrouting brings them back in line.
