Regrouting near Laurencekirk

About our regrouting in Laurencekirk

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We work on bathroom floors, tiled floors and kitchen splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and shower grout that has worn away.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Laurencekirk and everywhere else we cover.

Laurencekirk questions

Do you cover smaller places like Laurencekirk?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you cover Laurencekirk for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Laurencekirk is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

What sealant do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us, and we’re fully insured.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

In most cases, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

Is it worth trying it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

What regrouting looks like in Laurencekirk

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Homes close to Laurencekirk include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Rented homes near Laurencekirk station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

When something else is needed

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:

  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

What we are called out for in Laurencekirk

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that’s hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

People usually contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Mearns Academy, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

What to look for in a quote

  • How long to leave it before use
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it

Our hiring checklist

How we quote for regrouting

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The product the joint needs
  • The amount of work

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Where the property is
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

Want a quote for regrouting? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear quote before work begins.

Aftercare tips

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout

Check the corner silicone now and then. It’s the part that moves, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone is not enough, so it’s worth acting early.

How it works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outdoor work around Laurencekirk depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
