How we quote for regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Access and height

Combining jobs into one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • How we’d reach the joints

We don’t publish a price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Regrouting in Collin

If you’ve been scrubbing grout that will not come clean, the stain is often in the grout itself. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. Typical jobs include grout stained black or orange that won’t clean and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, on bathroom floors, tiled floors and shower walls.

For a place like Collin, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Different surfaces, different methods

Bathroom wall tiles

Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can regroute just those areas or the whole wall.

Kitchen splashbacks

Grout behind the hob and sink works hard. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.

Your questions about regrouting in Collin

Is Collin within the area you cover?

Yes, Collin is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

I let a flat near Dumfries station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

Regrouting will not fix loose tiles. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

How long does regrouting take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will say how long yours will take.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

Before we leave, we will tell you how long to wait. The grout and sealant both need to cure before they get wet.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, it will not last. It may look fine at first, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Should I try DIY first?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Why deal with it now?

Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They will not fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

How the visit works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Collin may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

How to prepare

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Advice

What regrouting looks like in Collin

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

If you let a flat or house near Dumfries station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. Around Collin, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

DIY versus a professional finish

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Landlord and commercial work in Collin

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

What we cannot put right

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracked or broken tiles

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
