Clouston Regrouting
Regrouting for Clouston and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Ask us for a quick quote.
- Floor grout that will not come clean
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Grout washed out of a shower
Regrouting for homes and businesses in Clouston
We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. We’re often asked to deal with gaps where the shower grout has gone and splashback grout that has darkened, on kitchen splashbacks, bathroom floors and tiled floors.
In and around a place like Clouston, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.
Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

How to look after the new joints
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Have loose tiles looked at early
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Keep the fan on after showering
We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
Surface by surface
Corners and edges
Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.
Kitchen splashbacks
A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.
Common questions in Clouston
Is Clouston in your area for regrouting?
Yes, Clouston is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.
Do you cover smaller places like Clouston?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you work for letting agents?
Yes, regularly. Several properties can go on one quote.
Is the work guaranteed?
Our one-year guarantee applies to all our work. We are also fully insured.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
Yes, plenty of people choose to. A darker grout hides marks better, while lighter grout brightens a room.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We’ll point them out at the start.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Is there any odour?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

Quotes for regrouting in Clouston
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Access and height
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- How much there is to do
- When we can work, for business premises
Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- Where the property is
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
Every job is quoted individually. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send pictures if you have them.
Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
What we can’t put right
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before we start. It will not solve:
- A leaking wet room membrane
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Tiles that are chipped or split
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.
Joints and surfaces we work on

- Kitchen splashbacks
- Shower walls
- Bathroom floors
- Tiled floors

What regrouting looks like in Clouston
Clouston is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so the more notice, the better.
If you live in an older home near Stenness Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Around Clouston, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Clouston is about 9 miles west of Kirkwall, in the Orkney Islands. Homes, rented property, offices and hotels in Clouston can book us for regrouting. The work is guaranteed for a year. Clouston is one of 51 towns and villages in the Orkney Islands where we work for regrouting.
Our applicators cover all of the KW16 postcode area for regrouting and the streets around it. Nearby, we also carry out regrouting in Stenness (1 mile north-east), Cairston (2 miles west), Grimeston (2 miles north), Germiston (3 miles east) and Wasbister (3 miles north-west). For island and remote addresses, the job takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

Nearby you will also find Stromness Museum (3.3 miles south-west). For a walk, there’s Brodgar RSPB Reserve and Loch of Stenness.
Why deal with it now?
Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Around Clouston, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

How it works
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, do the work and tidy away. It normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Around Clouston, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
