Regrouting in Stenness
Our applicators work in Stenness on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Old grout in a dated colour
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
Regrouting in Stenness, done properly
Across Stenness, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. If you are dealing with floor grout that has worn and darkened and grout in corners that has cracked, we can help, whatever the surface.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Stenness work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
Our work is backed for twelve months, in Stenness and everywhere else we cover.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.
How we quote for regrouting
Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The size of the job
- Whether the work is at height
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
What we need to know
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
We don’t publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To arrange one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

FAQs for Stenness
Do you cover smaller places like Stenness?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Is regrouting in Stenness guaranteed?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Do I need to be at home?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
How long will you be here?
As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Bigger jobs take longer.
Will you leave a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
What should I tell you?
Let us know what needs doing and where, plus pictures if you have them. If we need more, we will ask.
Aftercare tips
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
Use a gentle cleaner on the grout with a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
What happens on the day
On the day, we look over the joints with you first. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outside jobs in Stenness need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- Move anything stored near the joints

Why deal with it now?
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. In an older home around Stenness, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.
The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins.
Why us?
- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild
- We leave the area clean and tidy
- A 12-month guarantee on all work

Landlords, agents and businesses in Stenness
We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
Regrouting around Stenness
Stenness is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Around Stenness, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

When to call us in Stenness
Grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down, especially in a shower that is used every day.
The problems people usually mention when they call include:
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Grout that is cracking and breaking up
If you live in an older home near Stenness Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- What preparation is included
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
