How we handle regrouting in Bankglen

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. We are often asked to deal with discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, on kitchen splashbacks, bathroom floors and tiled floors.

A bathroom in a place like Bankglen gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Regrouting around Bankglen

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

For an older house near a landmark such as Martyrs Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

What we do, step by step

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Around Bankglen, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Bankglen: your questions answered

Will you come out to Bankglen?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

I let a flat near New Cumnock station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

When can I use the shower again?

We will tell you on the day. The wait depends on the products and conditions so please stick to it.

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Ventilation helps.

A short description and the location, plus pictures if you have them. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Quotes for regrouting in Bankglen

You will get a clear quote before we start. It takes into account:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Roughly how big the job is

Need a quote? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

Why deal with it now?

Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, and then you are looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What the job involves on each surface

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so sound grout really matters. We check for loose tiles before starting.

Shower walls

Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We replace it, and reseal the corners.

Do you need regrouting in Bankglen?

Grout that was put in corners cracks as the bath or tray moves. Those joints should be silicone, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • Splashback grout that has darkened

If you let a flat or house near New Cumnock station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • How long to leave it before use
  • What product goes in the joint
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. It’s the part that moves, so it’s generally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.
