Gutter sealing near Cross Lane

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Cross Lane

A leaking gutter joint marks the wall and wets the ground underneath. Resealing the joint is often all it needs, as long as the gutter is sound. If you are dealing with drips from gutter joints and end caps and trim joints where the sealant has failed, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

In a smaller place like Cross Lane, some homes face open ground, and walls and rooflines facing the weather take the worst of it. That is where gutter joints and wall joints tend to fail first.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Cross Lane and across the Isle of Wight.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The amount of work
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The type of sealant required

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will talk you through it.

What to tell us for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The rough size of the job
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • A few photos by email, if you can

Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Simply phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and describe the job.

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Don’t leave a sagging gutter
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Check the gutters during heavy rain
  • Glance at the soffit joints now and then

Keep the gutters clear of leaves and moss, so water drains away past the joints. Standing water strains every seal.

Rain getting in round a garage door frame can damage what’s stored inside. Resealing the frame is a quick job while the frame is sound.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will quote.

How the visit works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, including the tidy-up. A visit to Cross Lane is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant will not bond to a wet surface.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.

Getting ready for the visit

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

Why act early in Cross Lane

A dripping stop end can soak the wall right through the wet months. It’s a small job to put right compared with treating damp later. In an older home around Cross Lane, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, and that is a much bigger job than renewing the sealant.

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.

Common questions in Cross Lane

What guarantee comes with gutter sealing in Cross Lane?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will you come out to Cross Lane?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.

Can you match the sealant colour?

Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours, and we agree the colour with you before any work starts.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Is there any odour?

Possibly a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

Cross Lane buildings and the weather

With historic houses such as Carisbrooke Castle (about 1.7 miles south-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Cross Lane as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.

If you look after a building such as Summerfields Primary School, larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing. In the older streets around St Paul's Church, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.

Should I try it myself first?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
