Bathroom resealing across PO31: what to expect
Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water that gets into the back edge of a worktop can swell the board. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. We’re often asked to deal with two layers of silicone, both failing and mouldy sealant that has gone black, across baths, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & upstands.
Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower.
- We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
- Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
- We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Bathroom resealing across PO31: local notes
Our bathroom resealing work across PO31 covers homes, rentals and businesses, from Cowes, Barton and Hunny Hill to the quieter places in between. The method is the same everywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. For any job in PO31, joints are cleaned back properly before anything new goes in. Parts of PO31 are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.
Cowes: In the older streets around St. Faith's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Schools such as Cowes Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
What we are called out for in PO31
Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone generally will not clean off.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
- A joint torn by a bath that flexes
Honest limits
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before any work starts. It will not solve:
- A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
- Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
- A leaking waste, trap or valve
How we quote for bathroom resealing
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The type of sealant required
- The size of the job
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first.
What to tell us for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- Where the property is
- The problem you’ve noticed
- The rough size of the job
Want a quote for bathroom resealing? Please ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the job. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.
Why deal with it now?
Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early.
Questions to ask before you book
- How long to leave it before use
- How the colour is chosen
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What guarantee comes with the work
Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
FAQs for PO31
Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?
Yes. Once mould has grown into the silicone, it normally can’t be cleaned out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.
Can tenants book the work?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
Should I try DIY first?
Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.
Do you come to PO31?
Yes. We work in PO31. To book, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
Can I choose the colour of the sealant?
White and clear are the most common choices, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.
Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?
Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint.
