How we handle gutter sealing in Chale

Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints, not replacing the gutter. We work on garage door frames, gutter end caps and soffit joints, and common reasons people get in touch are open joints in fascias and soffits and end caps that drip every time it rains.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Chale is booked around the forecast. Let us know about access to every wall, plus any garages or outbuildings.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Chale and across the Isle of Wight.

How we quote for gutter sealing

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Access and height
  • The amount of work

Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

What we need to know

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and describe the job.

Honest limits

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
  • Sagging gutters or broken brackets
  • Boards that have decayed or split

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly.

Where we work in Chale

  • Roofline trims
  • Garage door frames
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter joints
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter end caps

How the job changes by surface

Roofline trims

We seal the trims, not the roof. A roofer deals with the roof itself.

Soffit joints

Gaps at soffit joints can let in draughts and insects. We close them with a suitable sealant.

How it works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, including the tidy-up. Somewhere as small as Chale, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. The joint is dried before sealing.
  4. A gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

How to prepare

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice

Can I do it myself?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Chale questions

Is Chale within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Chale any different?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.

Where are you based?

Our base is Crawley. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you seal gaps in fascias and soffits?

Yes. Open joints along uPVC fascias and soffits can be sealed in a colour to suit.

Do you install new fascias or gutters?

We don’t replace gutters or fascias. If a gutter is broken or sagging, we’ll tell you so you can call the right trade.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Is it possible to stop a gutter joint dripping with sealant?

Yes, as long as the gutter itself is in good order. We clean and dry the joint before sealing so the sealant bonds.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

What gutter sealing looks like in Chale

Chale is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.

In the older streets around St Andrew's Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. In and around Chale, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep downpipes clear
  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Deal with a drip before winter

Leave the new sealant to cure as we advise and avoid disturbing it.

Early sealing limits how much water hits the wall. If we find a bigger problem, we’ll tell you.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.
