Glazing silicone for homes and businesses in Embo

Our work covers conservatory joints, rooflights and glass panels plus shower screens and the bases of glass balustrades. The old sealant comes out, the joint is cleaned and new silicone goes in. If you are dealing with leaks from the base of a shower screen and cracked silicone between glass panels, we can help, on glass balustrade bases, shower screens and rooflights alike.

Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.

Every job is covered by our 12-month guarantee.

What we do, step by step

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for most jobs. Outdoor work around Embo depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We trace the leak and confirm it’s a sealant joint.
  2. We remove the old sealant carefully.
  3. The joint is cleaned and degreased.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. We check the finished joints and test with water where it’s safe.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Advice

Frames and glazing around Embo

Embo is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

Managing a site like Dornoch Academy? Then its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

Embo is about 23 miles north of Nairn, in Highland. We carry out glazing silicone for homes and businesses in Embo and nearby, as part of our work across Highland. Embo is one of 253 towns and villages in Highland where we work for glazing silicone.

Why act early in Embo

Dealing with a leaking shower screen early protects the floor and ceiling. Water from a failed joint can soak into the floor before you notice. Around Embo, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Why Embo clients choose us

  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • Every job guaranteed for a year
  • White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows
  • A sealant colour to suit the surroundings

When something else is needed

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Cracked or broken glass
  • A sealed unit that has misted inside
  • A sagging or failing conservatory roof

If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we seal

  • Glass-to-frame joints
  • Conservatory frames
  • Shower screens
  • Glass balustrade bases
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Rooflights

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements.

Questions from Embo

Do you work for landlords with property near Golspie station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Embo?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Do you reseal glass shower screens?

Yes. We remove the old silicone carefully before cleaning and resealing.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

Generally, yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available for many products, and we agree the colour with you before we start.

What should I tell you?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Will there be a smell?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Opening a window helps.

Where do you work from?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Will it make a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Do you need glazing silicone in Embo?

Shower screen silicone gets wet every day. Mould grows into the bead and the edges begin to peel.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Shower screens leaking along the wall or tray
  • Conservatory leaks at frame and glazing joints
  • Silicone pulling away from the glass
  • Cracked silicone between glass panels

If you let a flat or house near Golspie station, leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies.

What your quote should include

  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What the cure time is
  • What product goes in the joint
  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Keep conservatory gutters clear of leaves
  • Squeegee the shower screen after each use
  • Inspect the sealant on glazing annually
  • Stick to mild cleaners on glass

Look over the glazing joints every year or so. Spotting a crack early means a simpler fix.

A leaking shower screen may not show at first. Water can soak into the floor or reach the room below long before you see it.
