Trusted bathroom resealing in Wardhill

Bathroom resealing in Wardhill

The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, then the joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. If you’re dealing with shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and mouldy sealant that has gone black, we can put it right.

A bathroom in a place like Wardhill gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee.

Common problems we fix in Wardhill

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Bathrooms without good ventilation give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone generally won’t clean off.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Two layers of silicone, both failing

Whether the job is in Wardhill itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What your quote should include

  • What insurance they hold
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint

Wardhill questions

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Wardhill?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do bathroom resealing in Wardhill?

Yes, Wardhill is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and the location, with photos by email if possible. If we need more, we will ask.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we are fully insured too.

Is it worth trying it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

What colours of sealant can you use?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

When something else is needed

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures

How we quote for bathroom resealing

You’ll get a clear quote before work begins. It takes into account:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Access and height
  • The size of the job

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What to tell us for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The rough size of the job
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

For a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. We’ll give you a clear price before any work starts.

Different surfaces, different methods

Basins & vanity units

Vanity units have long, worktop-style joints against the wall. Water that gets behind can damage the unit, so the joint is sealed in one unbroken line.

Sinks & splashbacks

Next to the sink, the sealant has to cope with constant water, including a food-safe sealant where that’s needed. The joint is laid neatly so it’s easy to wipe.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Give the silicone its full cure time

In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

Watch for the early signs: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.

How the visit works

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Before we arrive

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.

Wardhill homes and their sealant

Wardhill is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In and around Wardhill, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
