When it is not the sealant

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

About our bathroom resealing in Pittendreich

Sealant that is mouldy, cracked or peeling is worth sorting before it lets water through. A photo of the joints helps when you drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and you’ll get a clear quote before any work starts. We work on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & upstands and baths, and people most often call us about water getting behind the kitchen upstand and smears of silicone across the tiles.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Leave it or put it right?

The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you do not see: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. In a place like Pittendreich, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Pittendreich

Will you come out to Pittendreich?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you work in hotels near Pittendreich?

Yes, hotels and guest houses are among the places we work. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. More than one area can be quoted together.

Do I have to be there?

It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. Kitchen joints get extra degreasing before the new bead goes on, then a colour-matched bead is laid.

What should I tell you?

Tell us what needs doing and where. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes. Our 12-month guarantee covers every job, and we’re ARBOMaster approved applicators.

How the visit works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Outdoor work around Pittendreich depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Clear the area around the work

When to call us in Pittendreich

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles

If you look after a building such as Elgin High School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • What guarantee comes with the work

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower trays & enclosures

Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. It’s resealed along with the tray joints, following the enclosure maker’s guidance on which side to seal.

Wet rooms

Wet room floors move slightly as they’re used, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Where grout in a corner has cracked, we can replace it with sealant.
