About our bathroom resealing in Hogaland
Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through and into the wall or floor. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. If you are dealing with two layers of silicone, both failing and smears of silicone across the tiles, we can help.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

The process
All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. For a place like Hogaland, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Advice
How we quote for bathroom resealing
Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:
- When we can work, for business premises
- The type of sealant required
- The size of the job
- The number of rooms or windows
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.
Helping us quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- If someone has resealed it before
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- Where the property is
There’s no standard price list. Instead, we give you a clear quote for your job. To get started, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Your questions about bathroom resealing in Hogaland
Do you cover Hogaland for bathroom resealing?
Yes, Hogaland is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Hogaland?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
How long will the resealing take?
That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.
Do I have to be there?
We need access to the joints, so we will agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that generally means someone at home.
Will you leave a mess?
Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
Which products do you use?
Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, every time. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Can I do it myself?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Hogaland
Hogaland is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Island jobs need planning around ferries and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.
For an older house near a landmark such as Ollaberry Church and Churchyard with Monument, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
Hogaland is in the Shetland Islands. We provide bathroom resealing to homeowners, landlords and businesses in Hogaland and nearby. Hogaland is one of 63 places in the Shetland Islands where we work for bathroom resealing.

Common problems we fix in Hogaland
Silicone doesn’t last for ever. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner take their toll over the years, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.
Look out for any of the following:
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
In and around Hogaland, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
What your quote should include
- Whether VAT is included
- When the joint can take water or movement
- What insurance they hold
- Which colour the sealant will be
Different surfaces, different methods
Sinks & splashbacks
Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
Basins & vanity units
Vanity units have long, worktop-style joints against the wall. Water that gets behind can damage the unit, so the joint is sealed in one unbroken line.

Aftercare tips
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Wipe the sealant dry after showering
- Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
- Wait for the cure time we give you
- Move toiletries away from the joint
In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.
