Bathroom resealing in Findochty
Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the new joint isn’t pulled apart the first time it’s used. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and sinks & splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are a bead that has pulled away from the tiles and two layers of silicone, both failing.
A bathroom in a place like Findochty gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
- Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
Do not stand bottles along the bead, because they trap water against the silicone. A quick squeegee after showering helps the joint dry.
Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

Findochty questions
Can you do bathroom resealing in Findochty?
Yes, Findochty is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
Do you cover smaller places like Findochty?
Yes, Findochty is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
What colours of sealant can you use?
You’re not limited to white: white, clear and colours to suit tiles and worktops. We can help you pick when we quote.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
Will there be a smell?
Some sealants have a smell while they cure, which fades as it sets. Ventilation helps.
Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?
Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so the bead comes out, the joint is treated and new anti-fungal silicone goes in.
Does the resealing come with a guarantee?
Yes. All our work comes with a 12-month guarantee, and we’re fully insured.
How the job changes by surface
Kitchen worktops & upstands
The joint between worktop and wall takes splashes, crumbs and cleaning sprays. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows, so the line does not stand out.
Wet rooms
If a wet room leaks, the cause may be the tanking or the drain rather than the joints. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.
Bathroom resealing around Findochty
Findochty is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
In and around Findochty, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

How it works
We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Outside jobs in Findochty need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
- Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
- The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Advice
When to call us in Findochty
Silicone does not last for ever. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner slowly wear it down, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.
Look out for any of the following:
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
Homes close to Church Of Scotland include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- How the colour is chosen
When it is not the sealant
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
