Auldearn Bathroom Resealing
We cover Auldearn for bath, shower, basin, wet room, worktop and sink resealing. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
- Splits where the tray meets the wall
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
Common problems we fix in Auldearn
Silicone doesn’t last for ever. Daily water, heat and cleaning products slowly wear it down, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
- Gaps between the worktop and the wall
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
In the older streets around Auldearn Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Auldearn
The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, then the joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. We work on basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and common reasons people get in touch are damp behind the bath or under the tray and a reseal done over the top of the old bead.
For a place like Auldearn, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

DIY versus a professional finish
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Looking after it afterwards
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
- Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
Treat the new bead gently when you clean: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.
How the job changes by surface
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows, so the line does not stand out.
Basins & vanity units
Basin joints are short and close to eye level: so we keep the line tidy and even, in white, clear or a colour to suit.

How we quote for bathroom resealing
Your quote is based on your job. We look at:
- The type of sealant required
- How many areas need sealing
- How easy the joints are to reach
- Any working-time requirements on site
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
What we need to know
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:
- How we’d reach the joints
- The rough size of the job
- The problem you’ve noticed
- If someone has resealed it before
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.
Your questions about bathroom resealing in Auldearn
I let a flat near Nairn station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Is Auldearn in your area for bathroom resealing?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Auldearn is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
How long does a bath or shower reseal take?
That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.
Should I try DIY first?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Will you leave a mess?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.
Can you just seal over the old silicone?
No, never. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away, because silicone doesn’t bond to silicone. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.
Bathroom resealing around Auldearn
Auldearn is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
For landlords with property near Nairn station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

What we do, step by step
We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, and the area is left clean. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
- Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
- The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.
Before we arrive
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
