What happens on the day

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. For a place like A' Chrìon Làraich, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Before we arrive

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Tell us if parking is tricky

Advice

Bathroom resealing in A' Chrìon Làraich

A shower joint gets soaked every day. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. If you’re dealing with sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away and damp behind the bath or under the tray, we can help, on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and baths alike.

For a place like A' Chrìon Làraich, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

How the job changes by surface

Sinks & splashbacks

Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, and a food-safe product where it’s needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.

Basins & vanity units

A vanity top has a joint along the wall and sometimes at the sides. If water gets in, the cabinet underneath can swell, so a neat, continuous bead matters.

Should I try it myself first?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

What we cannot put right

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

What we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

What happens if it’s left?

Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but where mould is inside the silicone it normally comes back. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

The cost depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

Bathrooms and kitchens in A' Chrìon Làraich

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Do you cover A' Chrìon Làraich for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and A' Chrìon Làraich is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Do you work for landlords with property near Crianlarich station?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Is white the only colour available?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.

Can I do it myself?

It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. Kitchen joints get extra degreasing before the new bead goes on, then a colour-matched bead is laid.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then

Check the sealant now and then. A small split or a corner lifting is easy to spot, so if something doesn’t look right, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in A' Chrìon Làraich

Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it lifts, lets water in and traps mould underneath.

The problems people usually mention when they call are:

  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Water getting behind the bath panel
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles

For landlords with property near Crianlarich station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
