Need window mastic in A' Chrìon Làraich?

How it works

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house. For a place like A' Chrìon Làraich, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start by checking each window and door with you.
  2. Next the failed sealant is cut away and the joint cleaned.
  3. Where gaps are deep, backing rod goes in first.
  4. We apply a weatherproof sealant to match the frame and tool it neatly.
  5. We clear up and check every joint is fully closed.

How to prepare

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Window mastic for homes and businesses in A' Chrìon Làraich

Colour matters on a frame. White, brown, anthracite grey, black and clear sealants are all available, so the bead blends with the window rather than framing it. Common call-outs are for white mastic on grey or black frames and untidy mastic left by window fitters, across composite doors, uPVC windows and aluminium frames.

Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in A' Chrìon Làraich depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.

Every job is covered by a 12-month guarantee.

Why it’s worth doing now in A' Chrìon Làraich

Getting a straight, even bead on an outside frame takes practice, especially upstairs. A professional job is cut out properly, backed where needed and finished neatly, in a sealant suited to the wall. Around A' Chrìon Làraich, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Why us?

  • More than 20 years in sealant work
  • Sealant colour chosen to suit
  • Tidy, careful work
  • We are fully insured

How the job changes by surface

Aluminium frames

Large aluminium doors have long joints down each side and across the head, and the threshold joint takes a lot of water. We prepare and reseal every joint, backing the deep ones.

uPVC windows

The frame is cleaned with a product that will not harm the plastic, then the sealant goes in between frame and wall.

When to call us in A' Chrìon Làraich

Mastic ages in the weather. UV light hardens the outside of the bead, until it loses its stretch and starts to crack.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Leaking joints at the ends of sills
  • Gaps left after new windows were fitted
  • Mastic that is falling out in pieces
  • Draughty joints inside around the window

Rented homes near Crianlarich station change hands often, and sound mastic around windows and doors keeps out the draughts and damp that tenants notice first.

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (that needs a new unit)
  • Soft or decayed wood in the frame
  • Broken hinges, locks or handles

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

DIY versus a professional finish

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Paint up to the joint, not over it
  • Don’t use solvent cleaners on the joint
  • Keep timber frames painted
  • Don’t aim a pressure washer at the joints

Timber frames need their paint kept up, because bare, wet timber moves more and pulls at the joint. Paint up to the joint, not over the silicone.

Draughts get worse, not better. As old mastic keeps shrinking, the gap widens, and heat escapes around the frame. Resealing closes it.

Your questions about window mastic in A' Chrìon Làraich

I let a flat near Crianlarich station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Do you cover smaller places like A' Chrìon Làraich?

Yes. A' Chrìon Làraich is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How much does window mastic cost in A' Chrìon Làraich?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Which products do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We’ll tell you what we are using and why.

How long should I leave it?

That depends on the sealant used, so please follow the time we give you when we finish.

Can you do the inside joint as well?

Yes. Plenty of draughts come through the inside joint as well as the outside, so it can be worth sealing both.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. Our 12-month guarantee covers every job, inside or out.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
