Tarbet Bathroom Resealing

Problem with your baths, showers and worktops in Tarbet? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, with a one-year guarantee.

Trusted bathroom resealing in Tarbet

Bathroom resealing in Tarbet, done properly

A reseal only lasts if the joint is properly prepared. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. If you have gaps between the worktop and the wall and black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off, we can help, whatever the surface.

Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Tarbet homes and their sealant

Tarbet is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Rented homes near Arrochar & Tarbet station change hands often, and mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. For an older house near a landmark such as Ballyhennan Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Tarbet is about 14 miles north of Helensburgh, in West Dunbartonshire. Across the G83 area, our applicators can take on bathroom resealing. Across West Dunbartonshire, we cover 31 places, and Tarbet is one of them. There’s also a page for Glasgow, roughly 30 miles from Tarbet.

We cover every part of the G83 postcode area for bathroom resealing and the streets around it. Local streets include Bemersyde Road, Old Military Road and Ballyhennan Crescent, and we cover them all. We also cover An Tairbeart (1 mile east), Arrochar (1 mile south-west), Succoth (1 mile west), Ardlui (6 miles north) and Lochgoilhead (7 miles west). We also work in nearby towns such as Alexandria (15 miles south), Balloch (15 miles south) and Jamestown (15 miles south).

Landmarks near Tarbet

Tarbet has its own railway station: Arrochar & Tarbet station. Other landmarks nearby include Inveruglas Isle Castle (3.2 miles north). For a walk, there’s Loch Lomond.

Honest limits

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

Leave it or put it right?

The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you don’t see: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

What we do, step by step

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and tidy away. It usually takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. Outdoor work around Tarbet depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Mention any parking rules near the property

Advice

Common questions in Tarbet

Is Tarbet within the area you cover?

Yes, Tarbet is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

I let a flat near Arrochar & Tarbet station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders, and several properties can be quoted together. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

How long will the resealing take?

It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll tell you what we are using.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

Where do you work from?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.

Wet rooms

If a wet room leaks, the cause may be the tanking or the drain rather than the joints. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • The size of the job
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The product the joint needs
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The type of property
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
