Regrouting in Tarbet, West Dunbartonshire
Regrouting across Tarbet and nearby, with every bit of old sealant taken out first.
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
What affects the quote in Tarbet
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- The size of the job
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- How easy the joints are to reach
Doing several joints on one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.
Asking for a quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- How we’d reach the joints
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add photos by email if you can.
Regrouting in Tarbet
When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the discolouration has usually soaked into the grout. Replacing it is the lasting answer and you can pick a different colour while you’re at it. If you have corners filled with grout instead of silicone and cracked or crumbling grout lines, we can put it right.
For a place like Tarbet, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

Questions from Tarbet
Is Tarbet within the area you cover?
Yes, Tarbet is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do you work in hotels near Tarbet?
Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
How long does regrouting take?
As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we’ll tell you how long to expect.
Does someone need to be in?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.
Will there be a smell?
Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Ventilation helps.
What does regrouting cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.
What happens if it’s left?
Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Around Tarbet, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.

How the job changes by surface
Wet rooms
In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so good grout is important. We check the tiles first.
Bathroom floors
Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We check the tiles before regrouting.
What we are called out for in Tarbet
Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard can wash out within a few years.
People usually contact us after spotting one of these:
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Grout in corners that has cracked
- Old grout in a dated colour
For an older house near a landmark such as Ballyhennan Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
Questions to ask before you book
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- What insurance they hold
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
How the visit works
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Tarbet may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
How to prepare
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Move anything stored near the joints
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
How to get a quote
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will talk you through the work before giving you a price.
Advice
Keeping the joints in good condition
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Have loose tiles looked at early
- Check the corner silicone every few months
We will tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.
Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.
