How we handle regrouting in Luss
Across Luss, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you have gaps where the shower grout has gone and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, we can help.
For a place like Luss, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Your questions about regrouting in Luss
Is Luss in your area for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Luss is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Do you cover smaller places like Luss?
Yes, Luss is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
New grout cannot hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and it traps any mould or water underneath. We remove it all first.
What should I tell you?
The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.
Where are you based?
We are a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Luss homes and their sealant
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
In the older streets around Luss Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Can I do it myself?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
How the job changes by surface
Bathroom floors
Grout on a floor is walked on as well as wetted. It gets worn and dirty.
Kitchen splashbacks
Grout behind the hob and sink works hard. We renew the grout and the worktop sealant.
How the visit works
You don’t need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area in most cases. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention any tricky access

Advice
Leave it or put it right?
Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They do not fill cracks or stop water and stains often come back through. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. In an older home around Luss, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.
Why us?

- A 12-month guarantee on all work

What else we do in Luss
How we quote for regrouting
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- The amount of work
- Access and height
- The number of rooms or windows
- The old material and how stubborn it is
Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
What to tell us for a quote
To make quoting easier, let us know:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- The address or postcode of the job
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
There’s no standard price list, because every job is different. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Looking after it afterwards
Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.
Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.
Common problems we fix in Luss
Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down over time, leaving the joints sunken and rough.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
In and around Luss, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
