What happens on the day
When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before work begins. The work normally takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house. Around Port Logan, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- First, we go round the frames with you and agree the list.
- The old mastic is cut out and scraped back to clean surfaces.
- Deep gaps get closed-cell backing rod to set the depth.
- A flexible exterior sealant is applied in a colour to suit the frame.
- Every joint is tooled smooth and checked before we leave.
Preparing for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

About our window mastic in Port Logan
The new joint doesn’t have to be white. We can seal in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear, so the line suits the frame instead of standing out. If you’re dealing with black, perished sealant on frames and gaps where the sill meets the wall, we can put it right.
Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Port Logan depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

What window mastic looks like in Port Logan
Port Logan is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.
For jobs in and around Port Logan, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. Around Port Logan, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

DIY versus a professional finish
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Port Logan questions
Will you come out to Port Logan?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Does the coastal weather in Port Logan affect outside sealant?
Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.
Can I paint over the new sealant?
Most silicone cannot be painted. If you plan to paint, tell us first and we can use a paintable sealant where it suits the joint.
Can you reach windows above the ground floor?
Yes, in most cases. We plan safe access before the job.
Where are you based?
Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we’re fully insured.

More about window & door mastic
Leave it or put it right?
Not every sealant suits a window. Interior caulk and bathroom silicone aren’t made for exterior frame joints. A low-modulus exterior sealant keeps its stretch through hot and cold weather. In an older home around Port Logan, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Looking after it afterwards
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Wipe condensation off the frames
- Look round the frames every year or so
- Don’t aim a pressure washer at the joints
- Clean frames with a soft cloth and soapy water
Most silicone sealants will not take paint, so if you are planning to paint the frames or walls, tell us beforehand. We can use a paintable sealant where that matters.
Signs to watch for: cracks in the mastic, gaps you can see light through, damp on the reveal or mould around the inside of the frame. Any of these is worth a call.
Different surfaces, different methods
Aluminium frames
Coated aluminium needs a compatible sealant, and acetoxy silicones aren’t used, as they can attack some metals. We use a neutral-cure product.
Window sills
Where a sill meets brick or render, the ends often crack first. A tight seal at each end keeps rain out of the wall.
How we quote for window mastic
You’ll get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The number of rooms or windows
- Any mould that needs treating
- The amount of work
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- If someone has resealed it before
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- How we’d reach the joints
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will talk you through the work before giving you a price.
