Window mastic for homes and businesses in North Street

If you can feel air around a shut window, the gap is often at the frame. Resealing that joint can make a room feel noticeably less draughty and quietens the whistle on windy days. Where the air is getting in through the window itself, we’ll say so. Common call-outs are for a bead that doesn’t match the frame and leaking joints at the ends of sills, across composite doors, window sills and timber windows & doors.

Around North Street, many homes face open ground, so their windows and doors take the full weather. That exposure dries out and cracks the mastic around frames and sills faster.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

North Street homes and the weather

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast. Historic houses like Bentworth Hall (about 3.9 miles north) are a reminder that the area around North Street has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older timber frames in brick or stone need a different approach from a modern uPVC window.

In the older streets around Church of St Peter, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in.

North Street questions

Do you cover North Street for window mastic?

Yes, North Street is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing.

Is there a guarantee on window mastic in North Street?

All our work, in North Street and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do the inside joint as well?

Yes. Plenty of draughts come through the inside joint as well as the outside, so sealing both is often worthwhile.

How many windows can you do in a day?

That depends on the number of frames, how they’re reached and the state of the old mastic. We’ll tell you how long your job needs when we quote.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We’re fully insured.

Is it messy?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Do you work on first-floor windows?

Yes, where they can be reached safely. Let us know about access when you ask for a quote so we can plan the job.

Can you match the sealant to my frames?

Yes. We can use white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear.

What we are called out for in North Street

Older frames were often sealed with products that set hard. Once it’s rigid, every bit of frame movement pulls at it, leaving a hairline gap down one side.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Gaps where the sill meets the wall
  • Black, perished sealant on frames
  • White mastic on grey or black frames
  • Whistling draughts around closed windows

If you look after a building such as Ropley Church of England Primary School, the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s.

What to look for in a quote

  • How the colour is chosen
  • Are they insured?
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Repaint timber before it’s bare
  • Air rooms to keep condensation down around windows
  • Keep drainage slots and sill grooves clear
  • Wash the frames with mild soapy water

Silicone can’t generally be painted, so if you are planning to paint the frames or walls, tell us beforehand. We can use a paintable sealant where that matters.

A small gap around a frame only grows. As the old mastic shrinks further, more air gets through, and heat escapes around the frame. Resealing closes it.

What sealant work cannot fix

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Damp problems in the wall away from the window
  • Soft or decayed wood in the frame
  • Faulty window hardware

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

  • Composite doors
  • uPVC windows

What we do, step by step

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. It normally takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. Somewhere like North Street needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We check each frame and agree which ones need doing.
  2. The old mastic is cut out and the surfaces cleaned back.
  3. Deep gaps are filled with backing rod to set the depth.
  4. A flexible, weatherproof sealant is applied in a colour to suit the frame.
  5. Finally we tidy up and check each joint.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Why it’s worth doing now in North Street

If you are painting or rendering, reseal at the same time. A clean new bead makes new paint or render look finished. In a small place like North Street, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

Why book with us

  • The number and length of the joints
