What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. It generally takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door. Around Lochgoilhead, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
- Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
- The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
- We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.
Before we arrive
- Mention any tricky access
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

How we handle window mastic in Lochgoilhead
Mr Mastic’s applicators have more than 20 years’ experience with window and door sealants. We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every job is covered by a 12-month guarantee. We are often asked to deal with water coming in at the bottom corners of a door and white mastic on grey or black frames, across aluminium frames, uPVC windows and window sills.
Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Lochgoilhead depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

When it is not the sealant
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Rotten timber, which needs a joiner first
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (that needs a new unit)
- Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Lochgoilhead homes and the weather
Lochgoilhead is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on the mastic around window and door frames, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of The Three Holy Brethren, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint.

Surface by surface
Aluminium frames
Coated aluminium needs a compatible sealant, and acetoxy silicones aren’t used, as they can attack some metals. Neutral-cure sealant is the safe choice.
Patio & French doors
Not every patio door leak is a mastic problem: worn seals, blocked drainage slots or a poor threshold detail can be the cause. We check before we reseal.
How we quote for window mastic
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- When we can work, for business premises
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The type of sealant required
- How much there is to do
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
Asking for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Whether it has been sealed before
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.
Should I try it myself first?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Do you need window mastic in Lochgoilhead?
Sun, frost and rain wear sealant out. UV light hardens the outside of the bead, until it loses its stretch and starts to crack.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Water coming in at the bottom corners of a door
- Mastic that has split away from the wall
- Cracked internal joints between frame and plaster
- A bead that does not match the frame
In and around Lochgoilhead, as anywhere, good window mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
What to look for in a quote
- Who turns up on the day
- Are they insured?
- What preparation is included
- Is the old sealant removed completely?

How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Keep drainage slots and sill grooves clear
- Paint up to the joint, not over it
- Walk round the house once a year and look at the joints
- Use gentle cleaners on frames and sealant
Keep the new mastic undisturbed while it cures, for as long as we advise. Do not point a pressure washer at the joints.
A small gap around a frame only grows. As the old mastic shrinks further, more air gets through, and heat escapes around the frame. Resealing closes it.
