Window Mastic in Easter Skeld
Professional window mastic in and around Easter Skeld, with old sealant always removed completely.
- Cold air getting in at the frame edge
- Old mastic that has gone black or come away
- Water coming in at the bottom corners of a door
DIY sealant or a professional job?
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
About our window mastic in Easter Skeld
Mr Mastic’s applicators have more than 20 years’ experience with window and door sealants. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and we give a 12-month guarantee on the work. We work on composite doors, uPVC windows and timber windows & doors, and people most often call us about black, perished sealant on frames and cold air getting in at the frame edge.
Older stone-built homes in Scotland often have sash and case or timber windows set in stone. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.
All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Windows and doors in Easter Skeld
Easter Skeld is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on the mastic around window and door frames, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
For an older house near a landmark such as Reawick Congregational Church, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in. In and around Easter Skeld, as anywhere, good window mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
Easter Skeld is in the Shetland Islands. From the centre of Easter Skeld to the outskirts, window mastic is available for homes and businesses alike. Our the Shetland Islands coverage runs to 63 places, Easter Skeld among them.
Our applicators cover all of the ZE2 postcode area for window mastic. We also cover Walls (5 miles north-west), Kalliness (6 miles north-east), Scalloway (6 miles south-east), Hamnavoe (7 miles south-east) and Aith (7 miles north). Larger places within reach include Lerwick (10 miles east), Sound (10 miles east), Brae (15 miles north) and Sandwick (15 miles south-east). For island and remote addresses, a little more planning is needed.

Window sills
The end joints of a sill tend to fail before the rest. We reseal them so rain can’t run into the wall.
Composite doors
Composite doors are normally hung in an uPVC-type frame, and the joint around it is sealed like a window. We match the colour to the frame.
How it works
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself usually takes anything from an hour or two to a full day, depending on how many frames there are, depending on the size of the job. Outdoor work around Easter Skeld depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.
- First, we go round the frames with you and agree the list.
- We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
- Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
- A flexible exterior sealant is applied in a colour to suit the frame.
- We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the area around the work
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Common questions in Easter Skeld
Is Easter Skeld within the area you cover?
Yes, Easter Skeld is covered. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Easter Skeld for window mastic?
Yes, Easter Skeld is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, and it traps any mould or water underneath. We remove it all first.
Can you reach windows above the ground floor?
Generally, yes. Access is planned before we start, so mention the height and anything in the way.
Can you get sealant to suit coloured frames?
Yes. We can use white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear, so the joint suits the frame.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Of course. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels across the Shetland Islands.
Leave it or put it right?
Getting a straight, even bead on an outside frame takes practice, especially on upper floors. We cut out properly, back deep gaps and tool every joint neatly, using a product chosen for the frame and wall. In an older home around Easter Skeld, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
Why book with us

How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Clean frames with a soft cloth and soapy water
- Look round the frames every year or so
- Paint up to the joint, not over it
- Wipe condensation off the frames
Keep the new mastic undisturbed while it cures, following the cure time we give you. Keep jet washers away from the frames.
Wet, windy weather is when failed mastic shows itself, but resealing works best in dry conditions. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.
Quotes for window mastic in Easter Skeld
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The size of the job
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How many areas need sealing
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.
What to tell us for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- The address or postcode of the job
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- How we’d reach the joints
- Whether it has been sealed before
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
When something else is needed
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. Sealant won’t put right:
- A sash or casement that won’t close properly
- Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
- A failed sealed unit that has misted up
If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.
