Imeraval Remedial Sealant
We cover Imeraval for removing failed, mouldy or leaking sealant and putting it right. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- A second bead peeling off the first
- Sealant peeling off a dusty or damp surface
- Smears and lumps from a botched reseal
Remedial sealant in Imeraval
Remedial work is what we do when sealant has failed or been done badly. New sealant over old, smeared beads, unsuitable products and hidden mould all have to come out. We work on failed movement joints, botched or over-sealed joints and shrunken worktop sealant, and people most often call us about sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared and decorators’ caulk around a bath or shower.
For a place like Imeraval, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
A 12-month guarantee comes as standard.

FAQs for Imeraval
Is there a guarantee on remedial sealant in Imeraval?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Is Imeraval within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Is there any odour?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Do I need to be at home?
Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that usually means someone at home.
Someone sealed over the old bead. Can you fix it?
Yes. Both layers come out; over-sealing fails because silicone will not bond to silicone.

Can I do it myself?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Leave it or put it right?
Another bead over the top won’t fix a failed joint. It can’t bond to what’s underneath, leaving the leak in place and one more layer to cut out later. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

How the visit works
Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. Somewhere like Imeraval may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- The failure is looked at first, so we know whether it’s sealant, movement or water from elsewhere.
- Old beads and residue are removed down to clean surfaces.
- We treat any mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
- The right product goes in, with backing where the joint moves.
- The joint is tooled and you are told about anything else we found.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Advice
What we can’t put right
In fairness, some problems need a different trade:
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacing)
- A tray or worktop that needs refixing first
- A leaking trap, valve or supply pipe
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.
What we seal
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Expansion joints
- Botched or over-sealed joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Failed movement joints
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Get the cause of a repeat leak found before resealing
- Deal with small splits early
- Keep an eye on the ceiling below the bathroom
- Always have old sealant cut out, not covered
If we have found a cause, such as a loose tray or a leaking waste, get it fixed, or the new joint may fail again.
A failing joint rarely gets better on its own. Each use pushes more water behind the bead, into floors, walls or ceilings. Early action keeps it to a sealant job.
Remedial sealant around Imeraval
Imeraval is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
In and around Imeraval, as anywhere, good remedial sealant starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Do you need remedial sealant in Imeraval?
All sealant wears out eventually. Mould grows into the silicone, the surface hardens and the bead shrinks, especially in damp, poorly aired rooms. At that point it has to come out.
The most common problems we see are:
- Products that weren’t meant for the joint
- Black mould underneath the bead
- Repeat leaks from the same joint
- Over-sealed joints coming away
For an older house near a landmark such as St John's Church (Port Ellen), bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
