Remedial Sealant in Grindiscol
Failed sealant joints in Grindiscol need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
- Movement joints that have split or pulled away
- Over-sealed joints coming away
- A shower that leaks however often it’s resealed
Different surfaces, different methods
Leaking trays & enclosures
Where the joints are the problem, every bead is stripped and resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tray edges and screen profiles included.
Movement & expansion joints
A sealant stuck to the back of the joint can’t stretch. Backing rod or bond-breaker tape prevents it, so the sealant grips the two sides only.
Remedial sealant in Grindiscol
If a joint has been resealed and is leaking again, it’s worth a proper look. Send photos when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and say how long ago it was last done. Typical jobs include products that weren’t meant for the joint and dark patches showing through the sealant, across leaking tray & enclosure joints, botched or over-sealed joints and expansion joints.
For a place like Grindiscol, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

FAQs for Grindiscol
Do you take on hotel work around Grindiscol?
Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.
Can you do remedial sealant in Grindiscol?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Grindiscol is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
How long does remedial resealing take?
Allow a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. We will give you a timescale when we quote.
Someone sealed over the old bead. Can you fix it?
Yes. It’s slower than a standard reseal, because every layer has to come out cleanly, but it’s the only way the new joint will last.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
We’re a Crawley-based firm. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
Should I try DIY first?
Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.
How much does remedial sealant cost in Grindiscol?
It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.
What if resealing will not fix my leak?
In that case, we tell you what we have found. A plumber or fitter may be needed.
When to call us in Grindiscol
One of the commonest remedial jobs is sealant on top of sealant. Silicone doesn’t bond to silicone, so the new layer peels, and damp and mould settle between them.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Mould trapped under a layer of silicone
- Worktop sealant that has shrunk and split
- Beads that never stuck properly
- A second bead peeling off the first
For an older house near a landmark such as Bressay Kirk, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
What to look for in a quote
- What preparation is included
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- Who turns up on the day
When something else is needed
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed
- Plumbing leaks behind walls or under trays
- Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.
What we seal
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Failed movement joints
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints

- Botched or over-sealed joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
Why act early in Grindiscol
Repeat failures have a cause. Finding it, whether movement, water from elsewhere or an unsuitable product, ends the cycle. Around Grindiscol, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.
What you get with us
- Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
- Tidy, careful work
- Domestic, commercial and hotel work
- You choose the colour before work begins

What happens on the day
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied, including the tidy-up. Outside jobs in Grindiscol need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First we find out how and where the joint has failed.
- All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
- We clean the joint, treat any mould and let it dry.
- Where the joint moves, backing and a flexible sealant suited to the movement go in.
- The new joint is tooled neatly and we explain anything else we found.
Before we arrive
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Move anything stored near the joints
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
How to get a quote
We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and pictures are welcome.

How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Get the cause of a repeat leak found before resealing
- Deal with small splits early
- Check ceilings under showers for marks
- Keep the room well ventilated
Clean gently: no scraping, scouring pads or harsh chemicals.
If a joint has failed more than once, stop resealing it. Get the cause found first, otherwise the next attempt will fail too.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Grindiscol
Grindiscol is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
Managing a site like Anderson High School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
