Leave it or put it right?

New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. In older London homes, water behind a failed joint soaks into brick and timber without much sign, and once it shows in World's End, the repair is bigger than a sealant job.

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask about the job first.

Regrouting in World's End, done properly

Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it, then reseal the corners and edges. We work on shower walls, wet rooms and tiled floors, and the jobs we see most are corners filled with grout instead of silicone and grout stained black or orange that won’t clean.

London’s water is hard, so limescale builds up along sealant lines, in grout and on fittings. In World's End, regrouting is as much about a room looking cared for as about keeping water out.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Greater London.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout with a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers because they wear grout away.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Do you need regrouting in World's End?

Grout used in corners or along the bath cracks because those joints flex. Those joints should be silicone, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

People usually contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease

As a London address, World's End can be tricky for parking: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book.

What your quote should include

  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • Whether VAT is included
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?

Your questions about regrouting in World's End

Can parking be tricky for a visit in World's End?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly.

I live in a flat in World's End. Can a failed seal leak into the flat below?

Yes. In a flat, water from a failed bath or shower seal has only one way to go, and that is down. Cutting out the old sealant and laying a new bead early stops it getting that far.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

How long does regrouting take?

That depends on the amount of work, but most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We will give you a better idea when we quote.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

You will get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before they get wet.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. More than one area can be quoted together.

Where do you work from?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

The process

Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In World's End, as in most of London, parking needs a little planning. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a bay close to the door.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on the area. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

Kitchen splashbacks

Grout behind the hob and sink works hard. We renew the grout and the worktop sealant.

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Landlord and commercial work in World's End

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works.

Regrouting in World's End: local notes

London has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and taps, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. In a London flat, water from a failed bath or shower seal can reach the neighbours below, which is why it’s worth fixing early.
