Tripwell questions
Do you cover Tripwell for regrouting?
Yes, Tripwell is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
Do you cover smaller places like Tripwell?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area to suit the site.
Do you grout the corners?
Flexible sealant. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.
Will you leave a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Do you guarantee regrouting?
Our 12-month guarantee applies to all our work. We are also fully insured.
What does regrouting cost?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote.
What information do you need?
Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
How we handle regrouting in Tripwell
Across Tripwell, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, and we finish by resealing the edges. Common call-outs are for grout in corners that has cracked and greasy, stained grout behind the hob, across wet rooms, bathroom floors and tiled floors.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Tripwell work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
Whatever the size of the job, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

Can I do it myself?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.
Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
Do you need regrouting in Tripwell?
Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, until the joints are rough and low.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
Around Tripwell, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Questions to ask before booking
- How long the guarantee is
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- How much experience the applicator has
When something else is needed
We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- Tiles that are chipped or split
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

How the visit works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including the tidy-up. Outdoor work around Tripwell depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Let us know about parking restrictions

What regrouting looks like in Tripwell
Tripwell is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Homes close to Whalsay Parish Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
