Regrouting in St David's

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. Common call-outs are for grout that’s cracking and breaking up and greasy, stained grout behind the hob, across wet rooms, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee in St David's and across Perth and Kinross.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • Cracked or broken tiles

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Where we work in St David's

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Walls outside the shower get less water but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.

Bathroom floors

If floor grout keeps cracking, the floor may be moving. We look for loose tiles first.

Common questions in St David's

Do you cover St David's for regrouting?

Yes, St David's is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Will you come out to St David's?

Yes, St David's is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

What does regrouting cost?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.

How it works

Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, and the area is left clean. Outside jobs in St David's need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Landlords, agents and businesses in St David's

Landlords and agents in St David's can book us as well as homeowners. Sealant work between tenants keeps a property looking cared for before the next move-in.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

What we’re called out for in St David's

Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, which is why we check the tiles first.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles

Whether the job is in St David's itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What your quote should include

  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • How long the guarantee is

Choosing a sealant specialist

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

Regrouting in St David's: local notes

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

How we quote for regrouting

We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • How much there is to do
  • The product the joint needs
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

Every job is quoted individually. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and photos are welcome.
