Priestland Regrouting
Regrouting for Priestland and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Call for a quick quote.
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
How we quote for regrouting
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- Any mould that needs treating
- Working hours on commercial sites
- How many areas need sealing
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.
What we need to know
You do not need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:
- Roughly how big the job is
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- How we’d reach the joints
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that is easier. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll talk you through the work and give you a clear price.
Regrouting in Priestland, done properly
We work across Priestland, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. Typical jobs include cracked or crumbling grout lines and gaps where the shower grout has gone, across kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and bathroom wall tiles.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Priestland work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

When to call us in Priestland
When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, so we check the tiles before we start.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Shower grout that has worn away
Around Priestland, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
What your quote should include
- Who turns up on the day
- How long to leave it before use
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- What guarantee comes with the work
What we do, step by step
Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, and the area is left clean. For a place like Priestland, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Before we arrive
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Mention any tricky access

How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Check the corner silicone every few months
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
Questions from Priestland
Is Priestland in your area for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Priestland is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Is Priestland within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.
Should corners be grouted or sealed?
We seal corners with silicone. They flex, and grout there cracks.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, it won’t last. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.
Can I do it myself?
You can, for simple jobs. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
We are based in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Does someone need to be in?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Priestland
Priestland has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
For an older house near a landmark such as Darvel Central Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

DIY versus a professional finish
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

When it is not the sealant
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.
