About our regrouting in Drumclog
Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, with silicone renewed in the corners. We’re often asked to deal with floor grout that won’t come clean and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift, across wet rooms, shower walls and tiled floors.
A bathroom in a place like Drumclog gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Honest limits
In fairness, some problems need a different trade:
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- A floor or wall that keeps moving
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
Surfaces we seal
- Bathroom floors
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Wet rooms
- Tiled floors
- Shower walls
- Bathroom wall tiles
DIY versus a professional finish
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
How it works
When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Drumclog may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear the area around the work
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Looking after it afterwards
Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.
Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it, so it’s worth acting early.
Do you need regrouting in Drumclog?
When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, which is why we check the tiles first.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Old grout in a dated colour
In and around Drumclog, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
What your quote should include
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- How long to leave it before use
- What guarantee comes with the work
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
What affects the cost of regrouting
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Access and height
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Regrouting in Drumclog: local notes
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
For an older house near a landmark such as Drumclog Memorial Kirk, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
