Trusted regrouting in Blantyre

DIY versus a professional finish

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Regrouting in Blantyre, done properly

Across Blantyre, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. We work on tiled floors, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls, and common reasons people get in touch are grout in corners that has cracked and good tiles let down by tired grout.

Scottish towns like Blantyre tend to mix older stone-built streets, harled houses and newer estates. Whatever the age of the house, sealant and grout wear out in the end.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Blantyre as everywhere else we work.

Common questions in Blantyre

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Blantyre station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Blantyre?

All our work, in Blantyre and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

New grout cannot hold loose tiles in place. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Normally, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

We seal corners with silicone. They flex and grout can’t take that movement.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on size. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

Honest limits

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:

  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks

Aftercare tips

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough, so it’s worth acting early.

How it works

Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a job in Blantyre, tell us where the work is, how to get in and where to park. Outdoor jobs need a dry day, so they can move if the weather turns.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the work
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Regrouting around Blantyre

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Schools such as Calderside Academy are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
