Potarch questions
Is regrouting in Potarch guaranteed?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Is Potarch in your area for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Potarch is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.
How long does the job take?
Typically it takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Larger jobs naturally take longer.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
Will it make a mess?
No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes, we often do. The shower generally fails first, so many people regrout just that part.
What information do you need?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Regrouting for homes and businesses in Potarch
Before any work starts, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We work on bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and wet rooms, and common reasons people get in touch are grout washed out of a shower and old grout in a dated colour.
A bathroom in a place like Potarch gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Signs you need regrouting in Potarch
A poor original job is a common cause. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly tends to wash out early.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Old grout in a dated colour
Whether the job is in Potarch itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom wall tiles
We can regroute all the walls in a bathroom, depending on the area. You can change the colour at the same time.
Kitchen splashbacks
Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.
Leave it or put it right?
Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Around Potarch, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.
Why us?
- Rated 4.9 stars on Google
- We are fully insured
- We never seal over old sealant

DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
What sealant work can’t fix
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What happens on the day
All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outside jobs in Potarch need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
How to prepare
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Mention any tricky access

Regrouting in Potarch: local notes
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Around Potarch, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
