Keeping the joints in good condition

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Regrouting in New Trows, done properly

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. Common call-outs are for gaps where the shower grout has gone and floor grout that won’t come clean, on kitchen splashbacks, shower walls and wet rooms.

For a place like New Trows, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

Quotes for regrouting in New Trows

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Which sealant suits the joint

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll explain what’s involved and give you a clear quote.

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

What does regrouting cost?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes, that is common. The shower normally fails first, so many people regrout just that part.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we are fully insured for every job we do.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The process

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we are working on, so you can get on with your day. Expect the work to take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Outdoor work around New Trows depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Getting ready for the visit

Regrouting in New Trows: local notes

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Homes close to Lesmahagow Old Parish Church include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

When something else is needed

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Do you need regrouting in New Trows?

When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, so we check the tiles before any work starts.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Floor grout that will not come clean
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Lesmahagow High School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What your quote should include

  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • How hidden problems are handled
