Regrouting in New Aberdour, Aberdeenshire
Our applicators work in New Aberdour on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Grout in corners that has cracked
About our regrouting in New Aberdour
We check the tiles before any grout comes out. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you have good tiles let down by tired grout and grout washed out of a shower, we can help, on wet rooms, bathroom wall tiles and tiled floors alike.
A bathroom in a place like New Aberdour gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom wall tiles
Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can regroute just those areas or the whole wall.
Kitchen splashbacks
A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.
Common questions in New Aberdour
Is regrouting in New Aberdour guaranteed?
All our work, in New Aberdour and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can you do regrouting in New Aberdour?
Yes, New Aberdour is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.
Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?
Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or the area where the grout has gone.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
In most cases, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator, and we’re fully insured.
Which products do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.
When to call us in New Aberdour
Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard can wash out within a few years.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
Around New Aberdour, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
What to look for in a quote
- What the cure time is
- What product goes in the joint
- What insurance they hold
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
New Aberdour homes and their sealant
New Aberdour is within about 2 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
In the older streets around Saint Drostan's Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

What happens on the day
A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. It generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outdoor work around New Aberdour depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Advice
Leave it or put it right?
Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but mould that has got into grout generally comes back. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Doing several joints on one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

When it is not the sealant
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

- Tiles that have come away from the wall
