Bathroom Resealing in New Aberdour

Professional bathroom resealing in and around New Aberdour, with every bit of old sealant taken out first and a one-year guarantee.

  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Water behind a laminate worktop can make the edge swell. A continuous bead along the back keeps water out.

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

Bathroom resealing in New Aberdour, done properly

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through into walls, panels and floors. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. If you’re dealing with water getting behind the bath panel and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt, we can help, on kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures alike.

Bathrooms in smaller places like New Aberdour work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Why deal with it now?

A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it will not bond. Water creeps under it and mould follows, so the next person has twice as much to remove. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Why book with us

  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • Every job guaranteed for a year
  • Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas

What we do, step by step

There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is for a typical job. Somewhere like New Aberdour may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We will send you a clear quote for the lot.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • If someone has resealed it before

Want a quote for bathroom resealing? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Move toiletries away from the joint

Don’t stand bottles along the bead, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering helps the joint dry.

Do not wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

New Aberdour homes and their sealant

New Aberdour is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

In and around New Aberdour, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. For an older house near a landmark such as Saint Drostan's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Will it make a mess?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected, and we clear up when we are done.

Should I try DIY first?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us, and we are fully insured.

Does someone need to be in?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

Do the sealants smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
