Bathroom resealing in Mintlaw, done properly
Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Mintlaw. We’re fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. We work on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are a reseal done over the top of the old bead and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Mintlaw work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
Our work is backed for twelve months.

What affects the quote in Mintlaw
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- The product the joint needs
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether the work is at height
There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.
Asking for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Where the property is
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you’re ready, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
How the visit works
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
- Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
- The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Clear the area around the work
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Advice
Honest limits
It helps to know what we can’t do:
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Why it’s worth doing now in Mintlaw
A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, and that is a far bigger job than a reseal. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Common questions in Mintlaw
Is bathroom resealing in Mintlaw guaranteed?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Can you do bathroom resealing in Mintlaw?
Yes, Mintlaw is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?
No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. The old joint is stripped, cleaned and resealed from scratch.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.
Where do you work from?
Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.
What do you need from me for a quote?
The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.
Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?
Yes. Worktops, sinks and splashbacks are all part of the job, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.
Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.
Bathroom resealing around Mintlaw
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Mintlaw Academy, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. In and around Mintlaw, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Aden Country Park and the streets around them. A little further out are Maud Hospital (4.5 miles west) and Aberdeenshire Museums Discovery Centre (0.5 miles north-west). Not far away are Skelmuir Hill and Pitfour Lake.
How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.
A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
