Regrouting for Pittulie homes and businesses

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Pittulie

A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. If you are dealing with gaps where the shower grout has gone and floor grout that has worn and darkened, we can help.

For a place like Pittulie, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Common questions in Pittulie

Do you cover Pittulie for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Pittulie is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Is regrouting in Pittulie guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do the sealants smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Regrouting won’t fix loose tiles. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow so you know where you stand.

When can I use the shower again?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We will tell you exactly how long at the end of the visit.

How long will you be here?

A typical job takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. We will confirm how long when we quote.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Flexible sealant. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, and we never do. It may look fine at first, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use keeps water off the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

How it works

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on how much there is to do. Around Pittulie, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Advice

How we quote for regrouting

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll talk you through the work and give you a clear quote.

What happens if it’s left?

Regrouting will not help where tiles have come away. We point that out first so you know what’s involved. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

What we’re called out for in Pittulie

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it over time, until the joints are rough and low.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Grout washed out of a shower

In and around Pittulie, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • How long to leave it before use

Regrouting around Pittulie

Pittulie is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

If you look after a building such as Fraserburgh Academy, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

When it is not the sealant

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout

If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
