Regrouting for Inveraldie homes and businesses

How we handle regrouting in Inveraldie

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. Typical jobs include good tiles let down by tired grout and greasy, stained grout behind the hob, across bathroom floors, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Leave it or put it right?

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. In a place like Inveraldie, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

Regrouting in Inveraldie: local notes

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

In the older streets around Tealing Parish Church And Churchyard, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you let a flat or house near Dundee station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. If you look after a building such as Braeview Academy, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What affects the quote in Inveraldie

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether the work is at height
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Where the property is
  • The type of property

We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and photos are welcome.

How the visit works

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outside jobs in Inveraldie need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice

What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can regroute just those areas or the whole wall.

Bathroom floors

New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.

Your questions about regrouting in Inveraldie

Do you cover Inveraldie for regrouting?

Yes, Inveraldie is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Dundee station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or the area where the grout has gone.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

Before we leave, we will tell you how long to wait. The grout and sealant both need to cure before the shower is used.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Where do you work from?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
