Hammersmith: your questions answered

Do you take on hotel work around Hammersmith?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Kensington Olympia station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us about the property, and we will send you a clear quote.

Do you come to Hammersmith?

Yes, we do. Hammersmith is part of the area we cover.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or the area where the grout has gone.

How long should I wait before showering?

Before we leave, we’ll tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.

Is the work guaranteed?

Our 12-month guarantee covers every job.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator, and we’re fully insured.

Regrouting in Hammersmith

Before we start, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. We work on kitchen splashbacks, tiled floors and bathroom wall tiles, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked or crumbling grout lines and old grout in a dated colour.

London’s water is hard, so limescale builds up along sealant lines, in grout and on fittings. For a bathroom or kitchen in Hammersmith, getting the joints right keeps water where it belongs and the room looking clean.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower walls

Most regrouting jobs include a shower. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.

Bathroom wall tiles

Walls outside the shower get less water but still stain and crack. Regrouting brings them back in line.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How easy the joints are to reach

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or email us for an honest opinion and a quote.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

There’s no standard price list, because every job is different. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout

Have any tile that moves checked right away. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.

Hammersmith homes and their sealant

Hammersmith has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. London’s water is hard, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

As a London address, Hammersmith can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway. If you look after a building such as Corona Theatre School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Hammersmith is about 1 mile west of Kensington, in Greater London. We provide regrouting to householders, landlords and businesses in Hammersmith. Our area takes in 764 places across Greater London. We also work in London, about 6 miles from Hammersmith.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

What we are called out for in Hammersmith

Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, which is why we check the tiles first.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease

Letting a property close to Kensington Olympia station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

How to choose a mastic man

Why act early in Hammersmith

Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but mould that has got into grout normally comes back. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. In older London homes, water behind a failed joint soaks into brick and timber without much sign, and once it shows in Hammersmith, the repair is bigger than a sealant job.

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear quote for the lot.

How the visit works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The work normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, depending on the size of the job. For a job in Hammersmith, parking and access are the things to plan: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor we’re working on and whether there’s a lift.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Tell us if parking is tricky
